Route Description for The Great Ridge Walk & Peveril Castle
Exploring the Great Ridge Walk & Peveril Castle in the Peak District is a fun and ultra-scenic walking route that will take you through a good variety of terrain to experience some of the best views and historical sites that can be found in the area. The trail sets out from the car park at Mam Tor and climbs up the steep hill to arrive at the summit. From here, you will traverse The Great Ridge along Hollins Cross, Back Tor, and Lose Hill before descending the hillside and cutting across the open farmland towards Castleton. After passing through the charming village, continue to the southwest to pass through the picturesque limestone valley of Cave Dale and enjoy the sights of the historic 11th Century Peveril Castle towering above the landscape. Once you have made your way uphill, turn your direction to the north in order to walk through the final stretch of scenic farmland on the return to the parking lot at the foot of Mam Tor.
