Route Description for Crowden Campsite Walk
The Crowden Campsite Walk is a fun adventure, partly due to the fact that the trail can be a bit overgrown and rugged in some areas. To better traverse the rocky and muddy terrain, make sure to wear proper walking boots while out on the trail.
This walk is a great outdoor adventure that is best combined with a fun weekend of camping at the nearby Crowden Campsite. While out on the trail, you will make your way through the countryside by walking along the flowing waters of the Crowden Great Brook before climbing uphill to the Laddow Rocks. From here, you will have an awesome view of the surrounding hills, as well as the brook nestled in the valley floor below. After descending along the trail, return to your campsite and enjoy the rest of your time reconnecting with nature outdoors.
Setting out from the car park, head northeast along the road, where you will find two trails branching off on the right side. Take the path to the left and follow it into the trees to eventually cross over a small stream. At the junction, make a sharp left and pass through the gate at the edge of the stream. Make your way across and turn left, passing through the gate to follow the trail north along the stream.
After 0.2 km, pass through another gate and turn right along the track, following it alongside the dense treeline of Brockholes Wood. After crossing over the Crowden Little Brook, follow the track as it leads towards the foot of the hill and turns to the west to cross over the Crowden Great Brook. After making it to the opposite side, follow the path as it turns south and begins to climb up to meet up with another trail.
Turn right along the trail, following it for the next 1.5 km as it climbs uphill and crosses over several streams to provide some beautiful views of the valley behind you. When you have arrived at the popular rock climbing destination of the Laddow Rocks, turn around and take in the sweeping views of the surrounding hills that includes the winding brook as it cuts through the valley below. After taking in the sights, head back down along the same trail to make your way back through the valley.
When you reach the junction with the trail that you came in on, keep to the right for a different route back to the campsite. Follow this path for the next 1.1 km, as you cut across the open moorland terrain and meet up with a lane. Turn left here, following the lane until you arrive back at the Crowden Campsite where you began your walk.
