Route Description for Castleton to Hollins Cross Circular Walk
Walking the Castleton to Hollins Cross Circular Walk in Peak District National Park is a great experience, not only because of the amazing views along the Great Ridge but also due to the historic villages and points of interest that you will pass along the way. Near the beginning of the walk, you will pass several karst caverns and remnants of the Blue John mining operations that were once prominent in this area.
The trail works past these features and begins climbing uphill with the iconic Mam Tor on your left before arriving at the top of the Great Ridge near Hollins Cross. From here, you will traverse the ridge towards the east, taking in the amazing views that sweep across the Hope Valley and the wider Peak District area. After making your way over the summits of Back Tor and Lose Hill, descend the steep hillside and cut across the picturesque fields to return to the historic village of Castleton where you began.
