Route Description for Goose Creek Falls Hike
When visiting the Payette National Forest in Idaho, a trip to the Goose Cree Falls Trail is a staple. What this trail lacks in the distance, it makes up for in elevation, so make sure you reserved some energy for the climb back up to the trailhead. Warranting year-round exploration, those visiting in the winter should come with snowshoes and trekking poles to safely navigate the snow-packed terrain. Additionally, the rocks around the falls become quite slippery when wet, so take your time and mind your footing when exploring. Insider’s hint: the best time to visit is in the spring when the cascade surges with snowmelt.
Setting out from the parking lot and trailhead, your adventure begins by following the Goose Creek Falls Trail northwardly. This lovely path will immediately dip beneath the shaded tree canopy of mixed pines and spruce. Gently descending, you will continue to hike northwardly, crossing a footbridge before reaching an intersection with the Goose Creek Trail. You will turn left onto the Goose Creek Falls/ Goose Creek Trail tracking south.
Follow this route along the banks of Goose Creek until you ultimately reach the falls. The mesmerizing scene of the Goose Creek Falls cascading over the craggy rock wall will captivate you. Enjoy the scenery and relaxing sounds before heading back the way you came, climbing back up to the trailhead.
