Route Description for Simonside and Dove Crag Circular Walk
Featuring a serene stretch of woodland terrain, rugged sandstone outcrops, and sweeping views from atop two moorland hills, the Simonside and Dove Crag Circular Walk is an awesome adventure if you are wanting to simply get outside and experience the natural beauty of Northumberland.
From the car park, you will make your way west through the thick forest canopy, climbing up the hillside to pass by the sandstone rock formations known as Little Church Rock and Criss Cross Rock. Here, you will begin to make your way south and out of the cover of the forest, traversing the rugged terrain of the moor on the way up to the summit of Simonside.
After taking in the spectacular views across the Northumberland landscape, you will descend the hill slightly to the east, before making the brief uphill climb to the summit of Dove Crag for similar views over the forests and farmland. At this point, you will keep omn to the east, descending the hillside until you meet up with the road, which you can follow to the northwest in order to return to the car park.
