Route Description for Scout Adventures Hawkhirst Circular Walk
No matter if you are in it for the stunning landscape views or to experience the diverse wildlife of Northern England, the Scout Adventures Hawkhirst Circular Walk is a great journey that will allow you to reconnect with the outdoors.
Setting out from Greenside car park, you will initially make your way east for a short distance until you reach a junction with the road. From the junction, you will turn left and follow along the edge of the road as it leads north towards Kielder.
After 2.1 km, make your way to the right, leaving the road behind as you cross a stretch of grass to immediately reach another road near the entrance of Scout Adventures Hawkhirst. Do not enter the grounds of Scout Adventures Hawkhirst. Instead, turn right here and continue along the road as it leads southeast, following the edge of Hawk Hirst.
After crossing over a small bridge, you will make your way to the southeast along the shores of Kielder Water. Here, you will enjoy sweeping views across the surface of the lake, as you skirt around the water’s edge and past the fascinating Kielder Bird of Prey Centre that is home to a variety of owls, hawks, eagles, vultures, and falcons.
After passing by the centre, you will make your way along the coast and pass by Freya’s Cabin, before rounding a small peninsula to enjoy some more beautiful views across the lake. From here, you will head to the west through the mixture of woodlands and fields, eventually crossing over the road and turning north.
Keeping right at the next 3 junctions, you will arrive back at the main road and cross over it, walking northeast through the tree cover. Short of Freya’s Cabin, you will turn left along a path and make your way to the north, once again crossing over the main road on the way back to the Greenside car park where you began your adventure.
