Route Description for Great Hetha Circular Walk
Walking the Great Hetha Circular Trail in Northumberland is the perfect adventure for those outdoor enthusiasts looking to get the best vantage point of the surrounding landscape. While great Hetha may not be the tallest hill in the vicinity, it will still produce what many consider to be the most scenic views overlooking the Cheviot Hills and College Valley.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way to the northeast for a short distance to pass through Hethpool, before turning to the northwest along St Cuthbert’s Way. After a good distance alongside the road, you will break away to the south in order to reach the slopes of Great Hetha.
From the southwest corner of the hill, you will begin climbing up the relatively steep slopes until you arrive at the summit, where you will enjoy sweeping views of the undulating terrain surrounding you and the quaint valley below. After taking in the views, make your way down the same trail and head south to meet the banks of Trowup Burn, following it to the northeast through the valley on the return leg to the car park where you started.
