For those adventurers looking for a lengthy one-way trail in Northumberland that will both expose you to the beauty of the region while simultaneously revealing the rich historical past of Northern England, the Corbridge to Chollerford Walk will be the perfect excursion.
Setting out from Corbridge, you will make your way to the northwest to leave the village behind, where you will quickly pass by the site of an ancient Roman town and garrison set in the countryside. From here, the route will take you north across A69, climbing uphill across the open farmland until you arrive at the Hadrian’s Wall path that runs parallel to Military Road.
Heading west here, you will follow along the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall that was constructed in the 2nd Century CE to defend the Roman province of Britannia from the Pictish people to the north. As you make your way along this trail, you will be able to stop at the impressive outposts along the wall, before eventually crossing over the River North Tyne to arrive at the endpoint of the walk in Chollerford.
