Route Description for Portballintrae to The Giant’s Causeway Walk
Featuring breathtaking views along the coast and the chance to visit the world famous Giant’s Causeway, the Portballintrae to The Giant’s Causeway Walk really is a fantastic route that you won’t want to miss out on if you plan on exploring the coastal areas of Northern Ireland.
Setting out from the car park, you will make your way to the east in order to cross over the River Bush. From here, you will make your way along the sandy expanse of Runkerry Beach to meet up with a railway line, following it to traverse the open countryside and eventually arrive at the Giant's Causeway Visitor Experience Centre.
Continuing past the building, you will make your way downhill and enjoy some spectacular views of the coast, before arriving at the Giant’s Causeway near the Giant’s Gate. Take some time here to explore the fascinating basalt rock columns, before turning back along the trail.
Once you are back at the visitor centre, head to the northwest to take an alternate route back to the trailhead that will lead you along a rugged stretch of the coast. After taking in the beautiful views of the sea, follow the trail as it meets up once again with the railway line, following it back into the trailhead in Portballintrae where you began.
