The Newcastle Beach Walk is an intermediate length walking route in Northern Ireland that will take you along the coast for some stunning views of the Irish Sea. While out walking the trail, you will traverse the sandy expanse of the Newcastle and Murlough beaches, before looping around for a return along the Ballybannon River. This is a lovely seaside adventure that is suitable for the whole family.

Route Description for Newcastle Beach Walk

If you are looking for a bit of a longer walking route that features scenic views across the water and easy-going terrain, then you will want to check out the Newcastle Beach Walk. This fantastic trail offers stunning views of the Irish Sea, making for a fun afternoon outdoors.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will initially make your way to the east to meet up with Newcastle Beach, turning to the northeast to walk along its sandy expanse. After passing the Royal County Down Golf Course, you will continue along Murlough Beach and enjoy some more scenic views across the water.

Reaching the northeast corner of the route, you will follow the trail to the northwest, traversing some open fields and intermittent woodlands, before meeting up with the banks of the Ballybannon River. From here, you will head to the southwest along the path, eventually traversing some rugged terrain to meet back up with the beach. Head right here and follow along the water’s edge until you arrive back at the trailhead.
