The Hare’s Gap Short Walk via Trassey’s Track is a beautifully scenic adventure that will lead you up into the Mourne Mountains. While out walking the trail, you will follow along a path that takes you through arguably the most beautiful mountain pass in the Mournes, situated between Slieve Bearnagh and Slievenaglogh. Although it is fairly steep and rocky, the path here is well-maintained and suitable for a wide range of walkers.

Route Description for Hare’s Gap Short Walk via Trassey’s Track

If the main goal of your excursion is to take in some beautifully scenic mountain views, then the Hare’s Gap Short Walk via Trassey’s Track should be at the top of your list. This fantastic route will lead you through a dramatic mountain pass in the Mourne Mountains that offers scenic views of the surrounding area.

Setting out from the car park, you will head to the south along Trassey’s Track as it runs through the forest in a direction parallel to the Shimna River. After exiting the tree cover, you will climb further uphill towards the pass that is situated between Slieve Bearnagh and Slievenaglogh. Once you have reached the Hare’s Gap, take a few moments to rest and appreciate the scenic views of the surrounding mountain landscape, before heading back down the same trail on the return to the trailhead.
