Route Description for Belfast Castle and Ben Madigan Circular Walk
Featuring gorgeous views of Belfast and its surrounding area, key historical sites like the 19th Century Belfast Castle and an ancient hilltop structure known as McArt’s Fort, as well as the nearby Belfast Zoo; this is truly an amazing walking route that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
Setting out from the trailhead at Belfast Castle, you will make your way to the west to traverse the steep slopes of Cave Hill, climbing uphill to gain an amazing perspective overlooking Belfast. From here, you will continue on to the northeast, passing by the ancient hilltop site of McArt’s Fort, as you descend the hillside towards the Belfast Zoo. Here, you will follow the trail as it turns sharply to the southeast and passes by the zoo, continuing downhill until you arrive back at the extravagant grounds and gardens of Belfast Castle.
