Route Description for Staithes and Cowbar Nab Walk
For a short walking route, the Staithes and Cowbar Nab Walk truly features some spectacular views along the rugged terrain of the coastal areas within North York Moors National Park. Historic village streets, gorgeous seaside views, and dramatic terrain all await on this fantastic route that can be enjoyed by all.
Setting out from the car park, you will make your way to the north alongside Staithes Beck, heading through the village and keeping right to explore High Street while taking in views of the harbour. From here, retrace your steps along highstreet and cross the bridge over Staithes Beck to reach a viewpoint over the village. Continuing on to the northeast, you will climb uphill to reach a beautifully scenic vantage point atop the rugged cliffs of Cowbar Nab that offer a sweeping view of the North Sea.
At this point, you will head back downhill and keep left along Cowbar Lane, following it out onto the Harbour Wall to enjoy some more scenic views across the water. From here, you can head back along the trail and cross over the bridge, making your way through the charming village of Staithes to return to the car park, where you began your adventure.
Getting to the Staithes and Cowbar Nab Walk Trailhead
To get to the trailhead for the Staithes and Cowbar Nab Walk from Whitby, head northwest on Upgang Lane/A174 for 2.3mi and turn right to stay on A174 for another 7.4mi. Make a right here onto Staithes Lane and follow it for 0.2mi, bearing right to arrive at the car park.Route Information
