The Swinton Bivouac, Druid's Temple and Sole Beck Walk takes you through grassy pastures, through woodlands and showcases parts of history. Discover Swinton Bivouac, Druid’s Temple and the ruins of Lobley Hall as you wander along the path. You will also be able to explore the Swinton Estate, which is 20,000 acres and houses woodlands, reservoirs, moorland, parks and gardens.

Route Description for Swinton Bivouac, Druid’s Temple and Sole Beck Walk

The Swinton Bivouac, Druid's Temple and Sole Beck Walk is a wonderful opportunity to view history and nature in one place. Beginning at the Bivouac car park, follow the path until you reach the woodlands, do not follow the obvious path, however, emerge into the woods. You will come across 2 boulders which is where you will find Druid’s Temple. After you have explored this area, continue along the path through a metal gate and through pastures where sheep are grazing. Continue through another open pasture and you will arrive at Knowle Plantation.

Continue along, and you will begin walking uphill to a beautiful view of Healey Village. Keep walking, and you will reach the River Burn. Cross the river along a footbridge and pass through multiple gates and woodland, and you will see the ruins of Lobley Hall. Rejoin the path after taking in the views here and you will arrive back where you began as this is a circular walk.

To get to the Swinton Bivouac, Druid's Temple and Sole Beck Walk from Ripon, drive from Kirkby Road to Grewelthorpe for 6.7mi, and then take Nutwith Lane, and you will arrive at your destination in 3.5mi.
