Route Description for Hanover Ridge Hike
Hike up into Idaho’s high country along the Hanover Ridge Trail. Enjoying scenes of the forested landscape along the way, this out-and-back adventure demands a modest effort. Note much of this path is exposed to the elements, so wear sun protection and bring along plenty of water to stay hydrated. Additionally, the terrain is rocky and uneven, so wear a sturdy pair of footwear to avoid a rolled ankle! While navigable without a trail GPS, we encourage hikers to download the map to mitigate the chances of getting off-track.
Your adventurer along the Hanover Ridge Hike begins from the trailhead off Gospel Road. From here, you will take a trail northwest into the woodlands. After some hiking, you will reach an intersection; veer left here onto the Florence Moores Trail. This route will redirect you south, past the Wind River Meadows and past another charming meadow framed by Umbrella Butte. At the following junction, you will merge onto the Hanover Mountain Trail, gradually climbing up to the ridge above the tree canopy.
Mind your footing on the uneven path and revel in the panoramic views of the forested landscape. Once you ultimately reach the summit of Hanover Mountain, you will be rewarded with a spellbinding vista of the Salmon River Mountains and Indigo Lake below. When you are through admiring the scenery, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
