The Cupboard Creek Trail is a great adventure for experienced hikers. The primitive, overgrown, and technical nature of this route possesses inherent challenges, but that’s all part of the experience—right? Though not necessary, many have chosen to camp along the shoreline of the Selway River and wake up to the scene of kayakers navigating the waters.
Embark on your journey along the Cupboard Creek Trail from the Big Rock Trailhead off Fog Mountain Road. Follow this route southeastwardly, over Cabinet Creek. After some hiking, the trail GPS will guide you off the marked path, tracking south. As you descend into the canyon, the path will near Power Creek as you weave through lush tree stands and open meadows. Admire the beauty of the verdant valley and the river below. The further you plunge, the thicker will the tree canopy becomes, shading you from the sun exposure.
Eventually, the path will merge with Cabinet Creek before delivering you to the shoreline. Revel in the grandeur of the bounding canyon walls and the remarkable river, which will likely be occupied with daring rafters. After enjoying the gorgeous setting, begin your tireless climb back up to the trailhead.
