Route Description for Blacktail Connection Trail
Unwind and reconnect with nature as you venture the Blacktail Connection Hike. This epic expedition is not for the faint of heart—instead, it beckons the exploration of adventurous spirits who don’t mind putting their bushwhacking and navigational skills to the test. As sections of the path are obstructed with overgrowth, we recommend hikers wear long pants. Because the route is also hard to locate at times, we encourage the use of the trail GPS for easy navigation. Don’t forget SPF and plenty of water!
From the trailhead, take the westbound Blacktail Connection Trail into the woodlands. Setting out from here, you will begin your gradual, consistent climb into the wilderness. Minding your footing on rocks and roots that may obstruct the path, you will be woven through swathes of dense forest and more open meadows. Enjoy the tranquility and the enchanting ambiance this route boasts. After some climbing, the path will plateau briefly before dipping down to the trail’s end.
You will ultimately reach the adventure’s end at the intersection with the upper segment of Blacktail Road. Notice North Blacktail Butte in the north and Blacktail Butte in the west. When you are ready, turn around and retrace your footing back down to the trailhead.
