Route Description for Skunk Cabbage Trail
The Skunk Cabbage Trail is a 1.3 km lollipop hiking route that passes through a scenic stretch of wetland landscape and is sure to feel like a full-on adventure if you are travelling with younger children. This route is almost entirely flat, making it perfect for hikers of all ages and skill levels. The entire area is overgrown with various types of plant life; however, the short trail is still easy enough to follow without needing a map. The path can sometimes get washed out due to its proximity to the Illecillewaet River, so make sure to check for any closures in advance and make alternate arrangements if need be.
Setting out from the parking lot, follow the trail as it heads northeast into the tree cover. Shortly after crossing over a bridge, you will break out of the forest and into the marshy landscape with its abundance of plant and animal life. Make sure to take some time educating yourself on the local vegetation with the interpretive signs along the trail. As you meander the boardwalk, you will occasionally catch glimpses of the rushing waters of the nearby Illecillewaet River. After completing the trail loop, head back along the same trail through the forest to return to the parking area.
