Route Description for Shelf Road Trail
The Shelf Road Trail boasts an incredible day of hiking. Explore the wide dirt road along the mountainside overlooking the city and indulge in the wonderful views. Note this route is shared with bikers and runners alike, so be mindful of passers-by. Note the undulating route is almost entirely exposed, so plenty of water and SPF are needed to avoid over-exposure. Hint: head out in the morning to beat the heat.
Embark on your adventure along the Shelf Road Trail from the trailhead off Gridley Road. From here, the Shelf Road travels westwardly, climbing up the mountainside. This undulating route provides wonderful views of the encompassing landscape to keep you motivated along the way. Climbing up the road, the path will ultimately plunge down into the valley to the trail’s end.
At this point, simply turn around and retrace your footing along the path all the way back to the trailhead.
