Route Description for Vasquez Rocks Trail
Hiking the Vasquez Rocks Trail is an awesome experience in Southern California that will expose you to some interesting history and geology. In 1874, the area surrounding the Vasquez Rocks was used by Tiburcio Vásquez – a notorious bandido – to evade the law; today, the area mostly hosts hikers looking to take in the natural beauty of the eroded rock formations.
Setting out from the parking area, you will make your way along the road as it leads to the southeast, where you will quickly arrive at the Vasquez Rocks. Some people will be able to recognize the site as a filming location for popular films and shows, such as Star Trek.
Heading right at the fork in the path, you will begin a loop around the surrounding area that will provide a scenic view of the various rock formations. Eventually meeting up with a section of the Pacific Crest Trail, you will turn left and follow the trail to the north in order to complete the loop and arrive back at the starting point of your hike.
