Route Description for Vanalden Cave Trail
Featuring scenic views of the surrounding Santa Monica Mountains and a fascinating sandstone cave system, the Vanalden Cave Trail is an easy-going adventure in Los Angeles that will be fun for the entire family.
Setting out from the trailhead on Reseda Boulevard, you will make your way south and keep right at the junction onto Mulholland Drive. Here, you will follow the winding road northwest, where you will eventually find the Vanalden Trail branching off to the right.
The trail here isn’t well marked, so use a GPS for navigation if you have one handy. Turning to the south, the trail will lead you through some tree cover to arrive at Vanalden Cave. Take some time here to explore the interesting sandstone rock formations, before heading back along the same trail.
