Route Description for Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve Trail
As mentioned above, the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve Trail is a pretty laid back experience that caters to all, but walkers should take note that there are a few sections of the path that are a bit steep, meaning those with a lack of mobility may require assistance. You will also want to arrive early to both secure parking and enjoy a bit of solitude on the trail.
Although it is certainly a popular walking route, this is still a wonderful adventure that the entire family can enjoy. Visit the interpretive center to learn about the ecology of the wetlands, before walking along easy-going paths that are surrounded by the beauty of nature. What more could you ask from a fun afternoon outdoors?!
Setting out from the parking area, you will make your way to the east, where you will quickly cross over a walking bridge. From here, the trail will bend to the southeast, following the edge of Bolsea Bay on your right and the wetlands on the left.
Take your time here to enjoy the pretty views while keeping an eye out for any wildlife species in the area. Eventually, you will arrive at the Mesa Trail Overlook, which provides a great view overlooking the entire area.
From here, you will head south across another bridge, after which you will turn left onto the Inner Bay Loop Trail. Enjoy the views across the water as you head to the east, arriving quickly at another scenic vista known as the East Channel Overlook.
After taking in the views, you will head north across yet another bridge and turn left at the junction immediately following the crossing. Here, you will walk along the edge of the Bolsa Pocket on your right, before arriving back at the Mesa Trail Overlook.
At this point, you can simply retrace the initial portion of your walk to arrive back at the parking area where you began your adventure on the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve Trail.
