Route Description for Loch Sloy Walk
Sometimes you just fancy a walk that doesn’t require any technical skill on a straightforward track with brilliant views, and the Loch Sloy Walk is just that! Beginning in the small hamlet of Inveruglas, this pleasant 12.0 km route begins on the scenic shoreline of Loch Lomond and later takes in Loch Sloy and the accompanying dam.
From the Inveruglas Visitor’s Center car park follow signs for “Loch Sloy & Hills,” and follow this track on the straightforward trail. The trail winds, and continues through the hills, eventually leading to the Loch Sloy Dam. Built in 1945, the Loch Sloy Dam towers 56 m high and stretches 357 m long, making it the largest hydroelectric power plant in all of the United Kingdom. Approaching the dam, you’ll come to understand why it took over 2000 men to build it, some of which were German prisoners. After enjoying some time spent by the dam, return via the same route, back to the Inveruglas Visitor’s Center where the walk began.
