Route Description for Winnemucca and Round Top Lakes Hike
Immerse yourself in California’s high country along the Winnemucca and Round Top Lake Hike. The overwhelming views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains will distract you from your tired feet as you trek. Adventure through meadowlands teeming with wildflowers and lush woodlands. As the route weaves between exposed terrain and tree shade, we suggest wearing layers as insurance against chilly conditions! Note hikers are required to pick up a permit; refer to the Eldorado National Forest Website for additional information.
Setting out from the trailhead, the Winnemucca and Round Top Lake Hike heads south along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Not long after you depart from the trailhead, you’ll reach Frog Lake. Admire the beauty of the charming alpine lake, and when you are ready, continue hiking. Soon you will merge onto the Carson Pass to Lake Winnemucca Trail. Wandering along the western slope of Elephants Back, you will reach the shore of Winnemucca Lake. Rejuvenate your tired feet in the chilly alpine waters, and then track the Camp Irene Trail to Round Top Lake.
Enjoy the sights of the encompassing peaks, and when you are ready, head back along the route all the way back to the trailhead.
