Route Description for Skunk Harbor Hike
The Skunk Harbor Hike is an awesome adventure on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe that exposes jaw-dropping views of the alpine landscape. Presenting the perfect excuse to get the whole family outdoors, this easy-going route will impress all of its adventurers. Wander down the shoreline cliffs decorated with looming pines to the beach. Open year-round, this versatile trail can even be enjoyed after snowfall with proper gear for traction.
Setting out from the trailhead, the Skunk Harbor Hike follows the Skunk Harbor Trail west. Hike through mixed pine woodlands and past several granite outcrops as you gradually descend towards the shoreline. When trekking in the offseason, be sure to mind your footing as sections of the route may be icy. Eventually, the route will guide you over a snowmelt stream and deliver you to the shore of Lake Tahoe.
Explore the rocky shoreline and the old stone building that sits along the shore. Rejuvenate your tired feet in the chilly alpine waters, and when you are ready, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
