Route Description for Scafell Pike via Piers Gill Walk
Although less-travelled than other walking routes up to the summit of Scafell Pike, the Scafell Pike via Piers Gill Trail is a beautifully scenic and slightly rugged route that will produce the same spectacular Lake District views, with the added bonus of having the trail more or less to yourself. Setting out from the car park at Wasdale Head, the trail will take you to the northeast through a corridor along Lingmell Beck before branching off to the south to climb uphill through the steep and rugged terrain along the waters of Piers Gill. Reaching the saddle just below Broad Crag, you will follow the trail to the southwest and make the steep push up to the summit of Scafell Pike for some absolutely gorgeous views overlooking Wast Water and the surrounding fells of the Lake District. From here, make your way north towards the summit of Lingmell Fell, before fully descending the hillside on the return to the trailhead.
