Route Description for Nethermost Pike via East Ridge Walk
The route leading up to Nethermost Pike via East Ridge isn’t really a popular route due to the steep climb and faintness of the trail; however, it is a rocky and rugged route that can be explored for those walkers looking for a great challenge and spectacular Lake District views. The route sets out from Patterdale and will initially see you traverse an easy stretch of trail that follows alongside Grisedale Beck, before branching off to the northwest on the steep climb up to the summit of Nethermost Pike. This elevated portion of the trail is a thrilling adventure in itself, as it will see you traverse some exposed and rocky terrain with steep drop offs on the way to the summit of Helvellyn. Enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding Lake District terrain, before descending the hillside past Red Tarn and Birkhouse Moor on the return leg of the walk back to Patterdale.
