Walking the Heron Pike & Alcock Tarn Circular is a popular excursion with a variety of outdoor enthusiasts in the Lake District due to some sections of rugged terrain and breathtaking views overlooking several lakes. Setting out from the trailhead, the route will lead you up the steep and rugged hillside of Nab Scar, where you will receive a sweeping view across the blue expanse of Grasmere and Rydal Water. From here, the trail will turn to the north towards the summit of Heron Pike before descending the slopes on the way to the charming edge of Alcock Tarn. After taking in the sights across this quiet lake, make your way to the southeast along the foot of Nab Scar to return to the trailhead where you started.
