Route Description for Fairfield via Stone Arthur and Great Rigg Walk
Walking the Fairfield via Stone Arthur and Great Rigg Trail is a popular activity for seasoned walkers in the Grasmere area, due to the rugged terrain atop the fells and the picturesque views that sweep across the undulating landscape of the Lake District. The trail sets out from the roadside parking area and climbs uphill along Greenhead Gill, before climbing up the steep slopes of Stone Arthur. While enjoying the beautiful views across the valley, you will make your way to the northeast to traverse the summit of Great Rigg on the way to Fairfield. At the latter summit, you will enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, with the waters of Grisedale Tarn and Thirlmere nestled between the rugged peaks. From here, you will turn to the south and descend the hillside along Tongue Gill, following its path until you break away along the road to return to the trailhead.

To access the Fairfield via Stone Arthur and Great Rigg trailhead from Ambleside, make your way north for 3.5mi on Rydal Road and take the second exit at the roundabout. Continue on for another 0.9mi, where you will find roadside parking on the left.Route Information
