Route Description for Coniston Old Man via Goats Water Walk
Walking up Conistomn Old Man is a popular activity in the Lake District; however, this alternate route past Goats Water will expose you to the same great views without the throngs of crowds. Setting out from the trailhead, the route will lead you southwest to begin a gradual climb up the hillside before breaking off away from the main trail to the west. Here, you will work along the foot of the hill and climb uphill to reach a corridor flanked by fells on either side that features the calm surface of Goats Water nestled in between. From here, you will make your way north up the steep hillside before turning to the southeast on the ascent of the summit. After enjoying the breathtaking Lakeland views, you will follow the trail down the mountainside to the southeast, eventually arriving back at the trailhead where you started.
Getting to the Coniston Old Man via Goats Water Walk Trailhead
To reach the Coniston Old Man via Goats Water trailhead from Ambleside, head to the southwest on A593 for 0.2mi and turn right. Continue on the A593 for 0.1mi, turning left tlo follow it for a further 7.2mi. Here, you will turn left on Lake Road, reaching the starting point of the walk in 0.1mi.Route Information
