Route Description for Castle Crag Circular Walk
Walking the Castle Crag Circular is a popular family-friendly activity in this part of the Lake District due to the laid back nature of the trail and the dramatic views that can be experienced here. Setting out from the car park in Seatoller, the trail will lead you to the north to climb up the hillside at the foot of High Scawdel on your left. After traversing the lower slopes of the mountain and crossing over a number of small streams, you will begin the descent up the slate-covered slopes of Castle Crag. This looks like a more daunting task than it really is, showcased by the families with young children that will likely be scaling the fell alongside you. After reaching the viewpoint, you will enjoy sweeping views along the valley that include a number of surrounding fells and the blue expanse of Derwent Water to the north. From here, continue north along the trail and descend the hillside until you arrive at the banks of the River Derwent. Follow this to the south along the valley floor and enjoy the beautiful scenery on the return leg of the walk back to the car park where you began your journey.
