Route Description for Engle Peak Hike
Hike above the clouds on the Engle Peak Hike in the Kootenai National Forest. This challenging ascent explores the timbered slopes of the soaring granite crest, progressing over loose scree and through patches of wildflowers. Note that much of the route is exposed, so dress in layers as insurance against varying conditions that are so common to the high elevation areas and wear sunscreen! Don’t forget to pack plenty of water to stay hydrated on this relentless ascent.
Embark on your epic expedition up to panoramic views on the Engle Peak Hike. This marvelous adventure begins by traveling through a corridor of subalpine woodlands before topping the timberline. Gradually gaining a ridge, you will eventually reach the crest. Here, turn right and hike along the rocky terrain above Engle Lake and ultimately up to the summit.
From atop the peak, you will be rewarded with 360-degree vistas of the Cabinet Mountains. Revel in the majesty of the mountainscape and the wild waterways that carve the serrated canyons, then head back down the slopes the way you came.
