Route Description for Crown Prince Lookout Trail
Even though the scrambling found on the Crown Prince Lookout Trail is completely optional, care should be taken when attempting as an untimely fall could result in injury. It is also important to remember that sections of the Crown Prince Lookout Trail veer off of designated Joshua Tree National Park paths. We therefore recommend bringing some sort of mapping aid with you to assist your navigation.
Having arrived at the trailhead, follow the designated path south. The terrain that lay ahead is relatively flat but is populated with cacti and other desert vegetation. The Crown Prince Lookout Trail will then begin to veer to the east, bringing you to a junction within the trail. At the junction you can choose to go either way, as both paths lead to optional scrambles up some large boulder piles. Once you have thoroughly explored the area, backtrack your steps towards the trailhead.
