Route Description for Mount Swansea Double Peak Loop
Hiking the Mount Swansea Double Peak Loop is a tough but rewarding experience that will see you gain almost 900 m of elevation on the way to the summit. If you are looking to complete this route in the shoulder seasons, it’s best to bring crampons or microspikes as the steep descent along the south ridge can be particularly icy. The trail itself is well-maintained and climbs uphill through intermittent forest cover along the western portion of the mountain before looping around its backside to the summit.
From there, you will have a dizzying view looking down onto the Columbia Valley, including the blue waters of Windermere Lake, and out across to the Purcell Mountain Range. After you’ve taken in the views, carefully make your way down the eastern portion of the trail known as the south ridge. This is known for being very steep, so take your time, and you will eventually arrive back at the trailhead having completed the Mount Swansea Double Peak Loop.
