Route Description for Green Monarch Mountain Hike
The Green Monarch Mountain Trail is a dramatically undulating route along the ridges of Lake Pend Oreille. While demanding, the incredible overlook of the lake from the trail’s end is well worth the effort. Note his lovely path is shared with dirt bikers, so be mindful of careless passers-by and be cautious of your footing in the ruts. Additionally, the mosquitos here are relentless, so bug repellent I a must!
Setting out from the Green Monarch Ridge Trailhead, the Green Monarch Mountain Trail follows the path northwardly. It is worth noting that a majority of the elevation gain is packed at the start of this hike, so don’t let the intensity discourage you; the intensity will dwindle before picking back up. After some hiking, the trail will plunge down to an overlook of the lake before climbing up the eastern slopes of Green Monarch Mountain.
The final push will challenge you, but the anticipation of the panoramic views should keep you motivated. Eventually, you will reach the summit, where you will be rewarded with wonderful and albeit somewhat obstructed views of the surrounding mountains and the shimmering lake below. Admire the scenery, then retrace your footing on the trail the way you came.
