Route Description for Coal Creek Trail #41
Hiking the Coal Creek Trail is an immersive experience. This wonderful adventure explores the woodlands occupied with firs, cedars, pines, hemlock, and more. Wander amongst a variety of wildlife as you get a great workout! Note this route is known to be overgrown in sections, and ticks are an inevitable nuisance, so consider wearing long pants and check your pup after your walk. Additionally, dirt bikes are permitted on this trail, so you may have company.
Embark on your adventure along the Coal Creek Trail #41 from the trailhead off Coeur d’Alene River Road. Setting out from here, you will be guided southwest into the Coal Creek canyon. Mind your footing on the uneven terrain as you climb into the woodlands. Hiking beneath the closed tree canopy and along the gurgling stream, you will be lulled into a state of relaxation. Enjoy the scenery and seclusion, and keep your eyes out for wildlife, including moose!
After some hiking, the incline will become more intense, guiding you up to the summit of a ridge anchored by Graham Mountain. Unfortunately, there are no views from here, but we think that the lush woodlands are reward enough. From here, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
