Route Description for Burton Peak Hike
The alpine terrain is beckoning your exploration, and the Burton Peak Trail presents the perfect opportunity to do just that. While the exposed route boasts awe-inspiring scenery, it also warrants extreme conditions, so be sure to dress in layers as insurance against varying weather. Additionally, much of the path is uneven and rocky, so be sure to wear a sturdy pair of footwear to mitigate the chances of a rolled ankle. Note: the road to the trailhead is rough and rugged—vehicles with high ground clearance are recommended.
Embark on your journey up to Burton Peak from the trailhead off Cascade Ridge Road. Setting out from here, you will be guided northwestward, gradually climbing into the meadowlands and subsequently beneath the canopy of lush, old-growth evergreens. Mind your footing on the rocky terrain and revel in the beauty of the wildflowers and vegetation that line the route. After some hiking, the terrain will open into the montane meadows.
Revel in the panoramic scenery and explore the historic cabin that remains atop the peak. If you still have some gas left in the tank, you can follow the ridge over to the second summit or simply turn around and retrace your steps along the path back to the trailhead.
