Route Description for Grandview Point to Horseshoe Mesa Trail
Grandview Point to Horseshoe Mesa Trail is an exhilarating adventure with panoramic views of Sinking Ship, Coronado Butte, Krishna Shrine, Wotans Throne, and much more. TSet in a less busy part of the South Rim, this route provides the chance to test your hiking chops Grand Canyon style without needing to contend with as many fellow hikers as Bright Angel or South Kaibab require. This out and back approach is easier and shorter than the Grandview Trail Loop, which encircles Horseshoe Mesa.
This is a hard hike with some intimidating sections. Those who are afraid of heights may want to choose another route. There is only one spring to refill your water at and you’ll be out in the sun nearly the whole way. Lots of water, snacks, good boots, and poles are helpful.
The route heads out from Grandview Point along the Coconino Saddle towards Horseshoe Mesa. This saddle is very exposed with steep dropoffs, so hike carefully and watch your step. Once you make it to the mesa, you’ll pass the campsite and end your route where the route splits. Check out the view in every direction around you before retracing your steps back to the trailhead.
