Route Description for Grand Canyon Village to Hermit’s Rest
Hermit’s Rest is the westernmost major viewpoint on the Grand Canyon Rim Trail, and the area is both a destination of its own and a starting point for longer hikes into the canyon. This guide takes you from Grand Canyon Village to Hermit’s Rest on the Rim Trail. You’ll have stellar views of the canyon throughout the hike, including from Hopi Point, the viewpoint that extends furthest into the canyon on the South Rim.
If the distance of this route as an out and back hike is too much for your group, you can easily cut it in half by hiking out to Hermit’s Rest and taking the shuttle back to the canyon. The shuttles run frequently and there is no fee to use them. There’s a shuttle stop right at Hermit’s Rest.
From the trailhead, you’ll set out along the Rim Trail. Pass Trailview Overlook, then continue north towards Maricopa Point. From here you’ll begin making your way to Hopi Point via Powell Point. Stop to take in the panoramic view before continuing to Mohave Point. The viewpoints don’t get old, we promise. Hike past The Abyss and Pima Point before arriving at Hermit’s Rest. From here, you’ll retrace your steps back to the trailhead.
