Moonrakers Classic Short Hike
The Moonrakers Classic Short is an 8.0 km lollipop trail through the Moonraker Trails Recreation Site near Golden that takes hikers through the dense forest and past several scenic lakes. This route combines different hiking and mountain bike trails in the area, so hikers should keep an eye out for any passing cyclists and remember to share the path. Along the route, you will experience beautiful views that look out over the tranquil lakes and capture the mountainous backdrop behind.

Route Description for Moonrakers Classic Short Hike
Hiking along Moonrakers Classic Short is a nice half-day trek through a peaceful forest setting that will provide some nice views looking out over the charming woodland lakes. The terrain along this route isn’t overly difficult and provides a nice mix of gentle ascents and descents along the different stretches of hiking and mountain bike paths. Several trails branch off from this one, so hikers should remember to bring a trail map or GPS along for the journey to stay on the correct course.
The views looking out over the Cedar Lakes are spectacular and perfectly frame the lovely woodland landscape as it’s set in front of the rugged mountain peaks of the surrounding area. This is a great trail for exploring the outdoors with friends, family, and canine companions; however, hikers should note that dogs are not permitted in the area around the first Cedar Lake but are allowed at the second.
Getting to the Moonrakers Classic Short Hike Trailhead
To reach the Moonrakers Classic Short trail from the Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, head east on Kicking Horse Trail for 3.8 km and turn right on Dogtooth FSR. In 1.7 km, keep left and then immediately turn right onto Cedar Lake FSR. You will find the trailhead on the left in 190 m.
