Route Description for Kreutzer Trail
Get your legs moving and reconnect with nature along the Kreutzer Trail. Hike the base of Mount McConnel and enjoy impressive scenery from the exposed overlooks. This adventure is low effort, high reward—we can’t always be climbing technical summit trails. Hike around the loop and enjoy sights of wildflowers and mushrooms, but be mindful of snakes, as they have been spotted in the area. Nevertheless, this trail is a satisfying short trek through the wilderness that all will enjoy. Note there is a $6USD parking fee.
The Kreutzer Hike circuit can be completed from either direction, but we recommend trekking clockwise. Head east along the Mount McConnel Trail as it guides you along the rocky ridge of the Cache La Poudre River. Eventually, the route will divert you away from the river and guide you under sparse tree coverage. Ascend the rocky terrain to a junction and turn right.
Travel through the bristlecone pines and notice tree burn. Continue along this route, and you will encounter another intersection. Veer right and the Mount McConnel Trail will descend the ridge and lead you back to the parking lot.
