Route Description for Griffin Memorial Trail
Travel back in time as you ascend the Griffin Memorial Trail. Hike amongst historical mine remnants that line the path. Explore the caves, shafts and equipment that preserve the mining history in Silver Plume, Colorado. Note this trail ascends steep, narrow, rocky terrain. We recommend sturdy hiking shoes to avoid a rolled ankle and consider trekking poles to help you navigate the vertigo inducing route. There is no doubt in our mind that outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs alike will be impressed by this unique hike.
Begin your adventure from the 7:30 Mine Trailhead. Hike up the cliff’s edge along the 7:30 Mine Trail. Shortly after your departure from the trailhead you will confront several sets of switchbacks and historical artifacts. Mind your footing as you trek up the steep terrain. Ascend the route and revel in the amount of mining equipment that dots the path. You will meet the trail’s end at the Griffin Memorial Monument on the cliff’s edge. Read the story etched into the stone and admire the grandeur of the forested valley below.
Bask in the sights of Silver Valley below and the craggy cliff that sits parallel. Explore the overlook and appreciate the beauty before retracing your steps back to the trailhead.
