The Crosier Mountain via Rainbow Trail is an amazing adventure in the Roosevelt National Forest. Hike beneath the aspen groves to the rocky summit of Crosier Mountain, overlooking the verdant wilderness below. This excursion is not for the faint of heart, but those who venture to the top will be rewarded with awe-inspiring views.

Route Description for Crosier Mountain via Rainbow Trail

The Crosier Mountain via Rainbow Trail is a beautiful adventure through the Front Range. Hike amongst vibrant aspens and towering pine trees. If you are seeking a lovely forestland hike, then we could not recommend this excursion enough. This woodland hike is a wonderful introductory hike or conditioning trail for adventurers who hope to eventually hike a Colorado 14er. Make sure you have sturdy hiking shoes and consider trekking poles to help you navigate the steep, rocky terrain. Note that this trail climbs in significant elevation to the summit, so make sure you are acclimated to the altitude in the area prior to your excursion.

Begin your adventure up to the Summit of Crosier Mountain from the Gravel Pit Trailhead. From the trailhead, take the route signposted as the Rainbow Trail. Note that the initial segment of this hike is steep, but don’t let that discourage you because the views from the summit are unforgettable. Trek southwest up the Rainbow Trail. Navigate several switchbacks up beneath the dense tree coverage. Ascend the forested path, and you will eventually confront an intersection. Veer left and you will be diverted onto the Crosier Mountain Trail.

This route will curve you southeast up to the summit of Crosier Mountain. From atop the peak, enjoy the 360-degree panoramic vistas of the Front Range region. Revel in the grandeur of the neighboring peaks and enjoy the sights of the verdant subalpine forests below. Take a break, rest, and refuel before beginning your descent. When you are ready, retrace your steps along the path all the way back to the trailhead.
