Route Description for Othello Tunnels via Kettle Valley Trail

The Othello Tunnels via Kettle Valley Trail is a great half-day hike that enters Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park from the west to take hikers to the old rail tunnels that were blasted into the rocky landscape. The tunnels are closed seasonally during the winter months due to unsafe conditions, but a good portion of the trail is still available for use. Hikers should keep this in mind when planning a trip to the area.

This hiking route follows along the Kettle Valley Trail as it meanders alongside the rushing waters of the Coquihalla River. The trail itself is very well-maintained and only features minor changes in elevation, making this a pleasant trek that hikers of all skill levels and ages will enjoy. Along the trail you will have beautiful views of the river and you will also be able to see nearby mountain peaks, including Ogilvie Peak and Hope Mountain, as they reach into the sky above the trees.

At the end of the hike, you will be able to walk through and explore the hollow expanse of the old rail tunnels that were once hewn from the rock to provide a necessary route through the rugged landscape. This easy hike has several unique highlights and should be on your list if you are looking for fun routes in the Hope area.
