Route Description for Skunk Canyon Hike
The Skunk Canyon hike is a mostly flat, scenic route on the edge of Flagstaff in the Walnut Canyon National Monument. You’ll make your way through a beautiful canyon on a very relaxed trail, appreciating the rock layers and the interesting habitat that the canyons in this region support.
This hike gets hot in the summertime and snowy/icy in the wintertime. Bring lots of water and consider microspikes if you’re out in the off-season.
Beginning from the trailhead, the route is very easy to follow. You’ll enter Skunk Canyon and follow it all the way to the trail’s end, appreciating the pools, flowing creek, birds, and rock walls of the canyon. If you want to hike a bit further, you can head over to Fisher Point for a nice view of Walnut Canyon. Otherwise, turn around and retrace your steps.
