Route Description for Goldilocks Loop
The Goldilocks loop is a tough but rewarding hike near Fernie that will allow you to experience that beautiful landscape around Fernie while exploring the rocky terrain of the Lizard Range. Due to the rugged terrain along this trail, hikers should wear proper hiking footwear to better traverse the trail. Additionally, this area sees high levels of bear and moose activity in the summer months, so you should always check for any closures before setting out on the trail.
This beautiful hiking route sets out from the Island Lake Lodge and works around the lake’s western edge, passing through a fantastic stretch of old-growth forest on the way into the alpine terrain. The route follows a series of switchbacks before breaking out into the rocky landscape around the mountains. While hiking the rugged loop through the Lizard Range, keep an eye out for impressions of ancient creatures that were once fossilized in the rock and now stand as a reminder of the rich geological history of the area. After completing the loop and taking in the gorgeous views, head back down the trail to return to the lodge.
