Route Description for Lulworth Cove to Flowers Barrow Circular Walk
Walking the Lulworth Cove to Flowers Barrow Circular Trail will lead you uphill across the undulating terrain of the coast that features some fairly steep uphill climbs and dramatic drop offs. Be sure to wear proper walking boots to better traverse the terrain and keep an eye on any children or dogs near the edge of the cliffs. As there are a number of natural highlights in the area, the parking lot can fill up fairly early. Try to arrive early if you want to secure a space and beat the crowds onto the trail.
Even though some aspects of this walk are a bit challenging, the feeling of reaching the viewpoint at Flowers Barrow and experiencing the breathtaking views of the Jurassic Coast are absolutely worth the effort. When you also factor in that you will be taking in scenic views of Lulworth Cove and passing through a fascinating Fossil Forest that dates back roughly 150 million years, you can almost guarantee that your day on the Lulworth Cove to Flowers Barrow Circular will be an enjoyable one.
Setting out from the car park, you will make your way to the north along Main Road and follow it to the edge of West Lulworth, before turning right along Bindon Road. From here, you will pick up a footpath on the right and utilize it to make your way uphill to the southeast. As you make your way along this elevated position, you will enjoy some beautiful views along the coast, including the picturesque Lulworth Cove below.
Continue along the trail as it leads east and traverses the rugged terrain of the Mupe Bay Beach Cliffs before heading downhill towards the shoreline of Arish Mell. Here, you will once again climb uphill along the dramatic coastal cliffs to reach the terminus of the route at the Iron Age hillfort of Flowers Barrow.
After taking some time to appreciate the stunning views along the coast, backtrack along the trail and follow the water’s edge, keeping left along the Mupe Bay Beach Cliffs to take a different route back to the trailhead. Here, you will follow along the coast and pass through the ancient fossilized remains of the Fossil Forest, before skirting around the edge of Lulworth Cove. After experiencing the scenic views here, you will make your way through the charming streets of the village to the northeast in order to arrive back at the car park having completed the Lulworth Cove to Flowers Barrow Circular Walk.
