Popular with a variety of outdoor enthusiasts, the John Musgrave Heritage Trail is an awesome walking route through the Devon countryside that will see you become acquainted with interesting historical landmarks. Setting out from the car park at The Pig & Whistle, you will make your way east along Gatcombe Brook to cross over picturesque farm fields and traverse wonderfully scenic swathes of woodland terrain. Eventually, you will reach the loop portion of the walk that will lead you around the grounds and remaining buildings of the Berry Pomeroy Castle. There is also a cafe here to stop in for some mid-walk refreshments. After exploring the 16th Century castle, follow the same trail back across the countryside on the return to the car park.
