Route Description for Zorro Trail
The Zorro Trail is a crowd-favorite! The convenient proximity to the city and the manageable terrain attracts many weekend adventurers. The stimulating scenery and the prospect of seeing interesting palaeontological features is the perfect excuse to get the kids out into nature. Adults alike will enjoy this trail for the unique geological features and the epic vistas of the Denver cityscape and the Front Range foothills. Note this area is abundant with rattlesnakes, so keep an ear and eye out for them as you trek.
Embark on your adventure along the Zorro Trail from the Green Mountain Parking Lot. From here, cross over the S Rooney Road and begin your climb up the Zorro Trail. As you hike through the grassy meadows enjoy the sights of the vibrant wildflowers that line the path. Navigate several sets of switchbacks up to the summit. When you summit the ridge, you will be granted panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.
From atop the Dakota Hogback Ridge, you will notice sights of the Front Range foothills in the west and the Denver cityscape in the east. If you still have some energy left in the tank, hike south along the Dakota Ridge Trail to the dinosaur bones that are stuck in the sandstone ridge. When you are ready to return, simply retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
