Route Description for Green Mountain Summit Hike
The Green Mountain Summit Hike is a lovely summit hike atop the large peak that sits on the boundary of the city. Revel in the panoramic vistas of the Denver cityscape, the Front Range foothills, the Red Rocks Park, and the Dakota Hogback Ridge. The exposed terrain exposes epic vistas but warrants windy and hot conditions, so dress accordingly, pack plenty of water, and wear sunscreen on warm days! Note that rattlesnakes are abundant in the area, so keep an ear and eye out for them as you hike and consider wearing baggy pants.
Embark on your adventure on the Green Mountain Summit Hike departing from the trailhead. From here, take the leftmost Green Mountain Trail before turning right onto the Hayden Trail. Keep right at the next intersection and you will reconnect with the Green Mountain Trail. Here, turn left and hike along the summit of Green Mountain. Pass the radio tower and continue northwest. Soon you will summit Green Mountain’s peak. From here, you will be rewarded with the best views. Notice sights of the South Mesa, Dinosaur Ridge, the foothills, and the city’s skyline.
Revel in the views, and when you are ready, retrace your footing southeast along the path. When you get back to the intersection with the Hayden Trail, keep left to change up the scenery. Continue following the Green Mountain Trail, which will deliver you back to the trailhead.
